As a weaver and basket maker my work has been primarily traditional in focus. My work is still functional basketry even when I create a decorative basket.

I work with gathered natural materials when possible and combine them with reed that has been hand dyed. Color and texture have always been my strongest focus and the juxtaposition of gathered material and the more refined material allows me to explore those aspects in a fresh way each time I make a basket.

The materials often take the design in an unexpected direction, shifting my work from a preconceived design to a more intuitive one, and opening me to those moments when the materials in use unlock hidden relationships. These are the moments when my work is strongest. These are the moments when the baskets seem to design themselves. These are the moments when my relationship with the world becomes evident in my work.
